William and Catherine Cass Residence, “The Crimson Beech” (1959)
Staten Island, New York
The house was undergoing major reconstruction when we visited, but we still got to look around the exterior and at back of the house. The house is made of wood batten and red brick, with what seemed like a brownish metal roof. The back patio is an impressive cantilevered design overlooking the vast greenery. The front facade is painted Masonite board in a sand tone, with dark brown horizontal lining. The contrast is a little startling.
