Dudley Spencer Residence (1956)

Wilmington, Delaware
HW #26

We caught the owner and his daughter on their way out, who briefly explained to us that he helped in engineering the house and that he’d kept all of the original furnishings intact. The house is based on a solar hemicycle, a semicircular plan that opens up its concave arc towards the south, allowing for passive solar heating and low energy and construction costs. The carport has been added later, and features Wright skylights, only with glass in them.
