Frederick C. Robie Residence (1906)

Chicago, Illinois
HW #76

Considered one of the most prairie-style houses, the Robie house features all the elements of Wright’s developing ideas. Horizontality is emphasized with impressive cantilevered overhangs, horizontally raked mortars on bricks, and the wide chimney. Privacy is induced with art-glass windows stepped back in between brick piers, shaded by overhangs and further recessed with brick barriers.
